More about Lauren

Since receiving the District 5 appointment in June I have brought principled leadership to the job as a public servant. I am greatly enjoying the work! I like thinking about the appropriate use of taxpayer dollars and am passionate about advocating for the proper role of government in our community. I hold the responsibility seriously and am positioned to continue serving as a Commissioner because I make decisions based on the guiding principles of: protecting taxpayers, safeguarding individual rights, and respecting private property. I believe all people are created with inherent value and freedom is required to express our unique gifts and talents.  I am passionate about advocating for a strong limited government and I look forward to championing this throughout El Paso County.

As a Colorado Springs native I came to recognize the special place we live in when I traveled to multiple parts of the country through my career as a food scientist. Of all the places I visited none compared to the impressive beauty of Pikes Peak and the surrounding front range. I chose to move back to Colorado Springs to raise my family because I appreciate the values and faith our community has nurtured. I want to ensure our community remains a safe and affordable place to live and it is important that El Paso County maintain a balance of services and growth of government.

I believe Colorado is in a battle to maintain the founding principles our country was built upon.  Many who pull the levers of government are forcing acceptance of ideologies through policy and regulations, working every day to increase the size and role of government in our lives.  I feel compelled to step up and fight for freedom because I have seen this threat firsthand while working on the Colorado Springs District 11 Board of Education and while serving on the Board of a local Christian camp and conference center where state mandates are rewriting how we teach our children.

When I graduated from Colorado State University with a BS in Food Science and Nutrition, I began my career working for major foods corporations in their product development divisions as a food scientist for six years until my first child in 2013. I was then blessed to be able to stay home to raise my family and maintain community involvement as a violinist with the Pikes Peak Philharmonic orchestra, and as a Board member of Quaker Ridge Camp & Conference Center.  As my children grew, I enrolled them into District 11 schools where I attended and had graduated, but quickly I began to see that the level of education was suffering with a lack of focus by leadership on academics. I ran for the D11 school board in 2021 and immediately began service as the Board Treasurer, diving into strategy and ensuring that resources were being spent intentionally to support the mission of the district while advocating for parental rights.

During this time I continued developing my leadership and governance skills as a Leadership Program of the Rockies Graduate in 2022, and gaining a Certificate in Education Finance from Georgetown University McCourt School of Public Policy Edunomics Lab in 2024. I applied those lessons to the D11 Treasurer role where I governed a $635+ Million dollar budget during my time.  I have always valued education with personal growth and am excited to represent the Colorado Springs area on the El Paso County Board of County Commissioners!  I want to hear from you as I continue to serve in this new role and am excited for the journey we will take together to build a strong community that values taxpayer protection, safeguarding individual rights, and respects private property.
